The three ships raided in Boston Harbor on December 16, 1773, contained 340 chests of tea, including ten chests of Souchong black tea.
This black tea from the Wuyi Mountains of Fujian Province has a distinctive smoky aroma. The term souchong (xiaozhong) means "small leaf variety" and refers to a family of tea cultivars that have existed in this famous tea-growing region since 1717.
